The house
Built for groups who want to be together
Baywood is what you book when a hotel doesn’t work—a family that wants one table for dinner, a team that needs breakfast before an early start, or a group that would rather cook than eat out for four nights running.
It sits on a private lane in Bayside, just southeast of Arcata, with the Baywood golf course in front and redwoods rising behind. It’s quiet enough at night that you’ll hear owls, and close enough to town that dinner is a ten-minute drive.
Built in the 1960s and thoroughly renovated, it runs across three levels with a gourmet kitchen and a dining table that seats eight to ten. A separate cottage fifty feet from the house adds a seventh bedroom.

The midpoint of the redwood coast
Humboldt’s redwoods run about a hundred and fifty miles up Highway 101. Stay at either end and one day of your trip disappears into backtracking. Bayside sits in the middle.

Who stays here
What the house is good at
- Families and multi-generational groups. Three levels means grandparents aren’t next to the teenagers, and one table means everyone eats together.
- Visiting sports teams. Seven bedrooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen that feeds a squad before an early start, and parking for a van.
- Cal Poly Humboldt weekends. Graduation, move-in, family weekend and campus tours—three miles from campus.
- Wedding parties. A base for a wedding happening elsewhere in the county, where venues are often out among the redwoods with no beds nearby.
- Longer stays. A dedicated workspace and fast wifi work well for visiting faculty and researchers.
- Redwood trips. An hour to each end of the corridor.
Good to know
House rules, plainly
- Sixteen-plus guests across seven bedrooms. Tell us your group size when you book so we can set the house up properly.
- Quiet hours from 10pm to 8am. It’s a residential street with neighbours, and keeping it peaceful keeps the house available.
- Not an event venue. No receptions or large gatherings. A small get-together among the people staying is usually fine—just ask first.
- Book earlier than feels necessary. Graduation and move-in weekends at Cal Poly Humboldt fill months ahead, and summer weekends aren’t far behind.
- Two nights minimum makes sense here. Everything in this county is a drive. One night means most of your stay is the road.
- Ask about anything. Pets, longer stays, early check-in, a specific weekend—call or text and you’ll reach a person.
