A mid-century modern house on eight private acres above the Eel River, with five thousand square feet of decks, patios and turf facing the King Range. The Avenue of the Giants is a short drive north.
The house
Cliff House was built for the trips people remember — big family gatherings, weekends with friends, days in the redwoods and evenings that go on because nobody wants to leave the deck.
At the centre is a great room where everyone can actually be together: soaring ceilings, distinctive mid-century architecture, and walls of glass framing the landscape. Panoramic doors open straight onto the covered deck, so the inside and the outside become one space.
It sits on eight private acres above the Eel River, surrounded by the rolling hills of Southern Humboldt — and despite feeling genuinely secluded, it’s about five minutes from Highway 101.
The main event
Five thousand square feet of decks, stamped-concrete patios and turf, all of it looking over the Eel River and the King Range. Turn on the Sonos and settle in.
The centrepiece
A thirty-inch round flat-top griddle built directly into a custom concrete dining table seating eight. Hibachi-style cooking with everyone around it — smash burgers, fried rice, cheesesteaks, or a proper breakfast while the group gathers at the grill.
After dinner
Move to the fire pit when the plates are cleared, or slip into the hot tub as the sun drops behind the King Range. Both look toward the same view.
5,000 sq ft in total
The covered deck is only part of it. Beyond it run stamped-concrete patios and turf with outdoor games, so a group of sixteen never feels stacked into one corner.
Throughout
Music across the outdoor spaces, which matters more than it sounds when a group is spread between the deck, the fire pit and the turf.

A king and a single bed, with a spa-inspired en suite and a queen air mattress available for extra flexibility. Easy access to the deck and the views.

Two more bedrooms in the same wing — one king, one queen — both close to the deck.
Family wing · bedroom 4
Two bunk beds sleeping four, across the great room from the adult wing. The children get their own end of the house.
Family wing · bedroom 5
Doubles as the fifth bedroom, giving teenagers or another couple somewhere of their own.
Separate · bedroom 6
A king bed in its own cabin away from the main house, for guests who want real privacy.

Three full bathrooms in the main house, including one with direct deck access — which you’ll appreciate coming in from the hot tub.
Where it is
Secluded enough for stars and wildlife, close enough that you’re not committing to a mountain road every time you leave.
Just outside the property runs one of the best local drives or bike rides in the county — winding through rolling hills, historic ranch country and oak woodland. The road dates to the 1870s, when it formed part of the route connecting Garberville and the surrounding ranches with Briceland and the coast at Shelter Cove.
